Jody
Miller is one of the most active recorder players
and teachers in the Southeast. His teaching credits include
director of the Emory University Early Music Ensemble,
applied recorder teacher at Agnes Scott College, music
director for the Atlanta Recorder Society, music director of
Lauda Musicam of Atlanta, and band director at McCleskey
Middle School. Additionally, he has served on the faculties
of Mountain Collegium Music Workshop, Bloom Early Music
Workshop, and Atlanta Early Music Alliance Workshop.
Miller’s studies include both bachelors and masters degrees
in Music Education from the University of Southern
Mississippi and additional study in choral conducting with
Alan Raines at Georgia State University. His recorder
teachers include Marion Verbruggen, Eva Legêne, Steve
Rosenberg, and Aldo Abreu. He has participated in
masterclasses with Wolfgang Dey, Washington McLain, and Hugo
Reyne.
Miller performs with Ritornello Baroque Ensemble and as a
soloist. Other appearances have been with the Atlanta
Baroque Orchestra and New Trinity Baroque. Though very
involved with historical music performance, he seeks out new
chamber compositions for recorder and works closely with
composer Timothy Broege. Miller can be heard on the Lilac
Editions compact disc “Charpentier: Messe de Minuet” with
New Trinity Baroque.
