Cathy Jane Sewell is a native of Atlanta Georgia. She began piano study at the age of 6 years old. Cathy received her Associates degree in Piano Performance from Clayton College in 1980. That same year she began teaching privately. Since then, she has attended Clayton State College and Georgia State University from 1997-2003 for additional studies in Pedagogy, Theory, Performance, and Psychology. Cathy’s teachers have included Ramona Brown, Lyra Crapps, & Dr. Carey Lewis. She was accepted to study with Jeannine Morrison in 1995, and has remained with her for the last 13 years continuing with piano study and pedagogy. Cathy is an accompanist for Degree Recitals, Juries, and Competitions. She has performed with Georgia Symphony since moving to Kennesaw in 2005. Cathy is an active member of Music Teachers National Association, Georgia Music Teachers Association, and Greater Marietta Music Teachers Association. Cathy has been a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers since 1996 and held the south Atlanta chair for 6 years. In 2005, she was invited to join the panel of judges for the National Guild. In 2007, she was asked to chair the Kennesaw center and had the first Audition season in 2008 at the Murray Arts Center. From 1997-2003, Cathy worked with a Chick-fil-A foster home teaching 12 students , including special needs children which was according to Cathy ‘’one of the most rewarding experiences a teacher could have.” Cathy lives in Kennesaw with her husband Mark, and two yorkies, “Willy and Wally.” When asked if there are any children, her husband answers, ‘‘We have three children-----‘’two dogs and a piano.”
