Candace
Keach has been principal flutist with the Macon
Symphony Orchestra since 1985. She has been a featured
soloist with this orchestra performing the Mozart “Concerto
for Flute and Harp”, the Hanson “Serenade” and the Bach
“Brandenburg Concertos #3 and #5”. Candace has played with
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as a freelance flutist and
has played piccolo with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra
from 1992—1994 and the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in
2000. She performed with The Atlanta Woodwind Quintet from
1982—1990 and has been featured with this group in the
nationally syndicated radio broadcast, “Performance Today”.
She also performed with The Atlanta Boy Choir in concerts
throughout Europe and America from 1985—1990. Candace was
principal flutist with The Atlanta Ballet and The Atlanta
Chamber Orchestra from 1982—1985. Candace was principal
flutist in the orchestra for “The Phantom of the Opera” at
the Fox, both in 1994 and 1997; and in Orlando in 1998. She
released her CD, “As Above So Below” in May of 2002.
During the summers of 1987 and 1988 Candace studied at the
American Conservatory of Music at Fontainbleau in France.
There she participated in the orchestra formed for Leonard
Bernstein’s conducting seminar and was featured in a trio
for a nationally televised special. Candace participated in
Ernen Musikdorf in Switzerland, an international chamber
music festival coached by Hungarian pianist, Gyorgy Sebok
during the summer of 1991. During the summer of 1992 she was
principal flutist for the Rome Festival Orchestra in Rome,
Italy. In August 1995 she performed with the University of
Georgia Woodwind Quintet in Rotterdam, Holland. Candace
performed at the National Flute Association Convention in
Kansas City in 1994, in Orlando in 1995 and in NYC in 1996.
Candace graduated from the University of Georgia and
continued graduate studies at the New England Conservatory
of Music in Boston. She has studied privately with Marcel
Moyse, Samuel Baron, Lois Schaefer, Warren Little and Ronald
Waln. She has participated in master classes with William
Bennett, Michel Debost, Andros Adjorian and with Eleanor
Lawrence.
Candace resides in Atlanta. She has been flute instructor at
The Lovett School since 1990. She is also currently on the
music faculty at Spelman College where she teaches private
flute lessons and flute ensemble classes. Candace is
co-director of the “Flutes On Fire” summer workshops,
1995—present. Her private students have consistently
performed successfully for Allstate, District, Solo &
Ensemble, The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, The Emory
Wind Ensemble, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, at
Brevard, Interlochen & Tanglewood Summer Institutes and in
Recital.
