The Georgia Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of newly appointed Music Director Timothy Verville, announces an open call to visual artists for a juried exhibition occurring at the season opening concert on October 22, 2016 8PM. This combined music performance and art exhibition will be held at the Marietta Performing Arts Center. The exhibition will be held before, during intermission, and after the concert — for one night only.

The event titled “A Musical Promenade” celebrates the collaborative ways in which music and other artistic mediums interact with and inspire each other. The performance concludes with Mussorgsky’s epic Pictures at an Exhibition, a musical walk through a showing of the works of Viktor Hartman.

This open call is limited to 2-dimensional works on canvas, prints, paper, etc. Ten artists will be selected, who will each prepare a mini-exhibit in their 4’x10’ exhibition space. Artists must submit by email up to 10 pieces representative of your work, a short bio and artistic statement which will be used for promotional purposes.

The jury for this exhibition is comprised of:
Clemens Bak, Executive Director, Acworth Cultural Arts Center
Seth Hopkins, Executive Director, Booth Western Art Museum
Sally Macaulay, Executive Director, Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art
Nichole Potzauf, Executive Director, Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association and Art Center

The deadline to apply is September 2, 2016 by 5PM EST. The announcement of selected artists will be made at the season kick-off party hosted by the Friend of the GSO, on September 18, 2016 — then posted on the GSO website and social media.
