The Georgia Symphony Orchestra (GSO) is artistically vital to Metropolitan Atlanta and invites interested patrons, investors and business people to volunteer to serve on the Board of Trustees.
The GSO is adding to its Board of Trustees, through a deliberate recruitment process focused on specific skills, backgrounds and geographic locations, to support the continued growth and development of the organization. The Georgia Symphony Orchestra is seeking board members who have a passion for the arts, education, and serving the community.
Specific expectations of board members are: attend monthly board meetings; serve, actively on at least one committee of the organization, attending scheduled committee meetings throughout the year, and carrying out organizational activities within the committee structure; attend concerts and events; participate in personal financial giving and raising funds for the organization; and provide overall governance and strategic direction to the organization.
Specific needs of the board currently include expertise in finance, marketing and communications (including social media), IT and website development, community connections, and willingness to raise funds. Representation from diverse communities is very important to the organization.
With an annual budget of $400,000 and a professional administrative and artistic team of 11 staff members, the GSO is home to over 700 artists and student musicians. The Georgia Symphony Orchestra is a nonprofit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Founded in 1951, the GSO serves 15,000 people annually across North Georgia through the Orchestra, the GSO Chorus, GSO Jazz! and the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra.
